Segment 5 – Prepping Before Paint

Segment 5 – Prepping Before Paint

Here we are on the job, Alex Schenkar, Schenkar Construction Design/Build. I want to take you guys out in the field today to show you a very specific custom home. We’re in the painting phase right now here; we have an 8,000 square foot custom home. As you can see, this is a full glass window wall made out of aluminum. We’ve masked everything off and taped it very meticulously.
The painting process is very intense; it takes a lot of time and attention to detail. Down here you can see the custom-made cabinets; they have all been cut, trimmed and ready for paint. This is very labor-intensive; it takes a tremendous amount of time to get a really good quality paint job. Before we paint, there’s a tremendous amount of detail that goes into painting prep.
In order to alleviate all of the holes that come from drywall screws, we have to patch, caulk and knock down the finish to make sure we have a nice smooth surface which will ensure a fantastic final painting product. This is a large home, about 8,000 square feet.
There are many doors, windows, base, crown molding and trim which is tremendous amount of work that we have to mask off, prep and get ready for paint. So when you’re thinking about painting remember how long it takes. Take your time and it will ensure an awesome product at the end.
